Dunbar Cave Natural AreaDunbar Cave State Natural Area

Dunbar Cave is a fun place to go! You can walk a paved path back to the mouth of the cave where in the summertime you will enjoy the natural air-conditioning that you feel coming out of the cave! Along the way you can spot ducks, turtles, geese and other wildlife. Theres lots of beautiful plants and trees to look at too!

Tour the Cave

You can tour the 8 mile cave with an interpreter. Participants must be at least three (3) years old (able to walk for 1-1/2 hours without being carried), have a flashlight (one per person required), and a reservation. Photography is not allowed in the cave. The cost is $4.00 each. Call (931) 648-5526 for reservations. Note that the cave is closed during the winter months so that the bats can hibernate in peace!

Fishing

Fishing is a popular activity on beautiful Swan Lake! The lake is fed by the cold, clear stream that flows from the mouth of Dunbar Cave. Since the lake is smaller in size, boating and swimming are not permitted. You must have a valid TN Fishing License to fish!

Hiking

Dunbar Cave TrailIf hiking is your thing, there are three trails that range from a leisurely walk to a fairly strenuous hike. All trails begin and end at the visitors' center.

Lake Trail:
2/3 mile (easy)

Short Loop:
.8 miles (moderate)

Recovery Trail:
1.7 miles (moderate)

When you get hungry, the park has seven picnic tables located just behind the visitors' center on a hill overlooking scenic Swan Lake. The picnic area is not wheelchair accessible.

Dunbar Cave is located at 401 Old Dunbar Cave Road in Clarksville. The park opens at 8:00 am and closes at Sunset.

Biking

There are a few parks in Clarksville that allow you to ride your bike, your skates or other kid-powered vehicles in a safer place than the street! Visit these parks that have paved paths to cruise!

Coy Lacy Park - Clarksville, TNCoy Lacy Park
105 Canterbury Road

Coy Lacy Park is a neighborhood park with a blacktop path to cruise on. The path starts and ends in the parking lot and goes all the way around the park.

It is a short, easy path to ride on with benches along the way and a park to play in.

Valleybrook Park - Clarksville, TNValleybrook Park
213 Crossland Avenue

Valleybrook Park has a winding path with bridges and some hills. This isn't the place to learn to ride your bike, but it is a beautiful park with a fun path to cruise. The path is winding in places, and has a few hills that younger bikers will have to work a little harder to peddle, but the challenge is worth it. It has some fun bridges that go over a creek that you might spy some frogs or other little creatures in!
